Sergio Cervato (22 March 1929 – 9 October 2005) was an Italian football (soccer) player. Cervato was born in Carmignano di Brenta, province of Padua. One of the finest defenders of Serie A, he was a quick and tireless competitor. He also boasted a fierce shot and took both penalties and free-kicks. Playing for AC Fiorentina, he often contributed to the Viola's attacks, scoring 31 goals during his 10 years in Florence. In the 1955–1956 season he won 1 title ("Scudetto") with AC Fiorentina. He won 2 more titles with Juventus F.C. He closed career in 1965 with Spal Ferrara in Serie B. In Serie A he played 466 matches and scored 45 goals. In the 1955–56 Scudetto Triumph, ACF Fiorentina lost just one game – the very last one at Genoa. In the 1957 European Cup Final a Cervato captained team gave Real Madrid a fright but eventually lost 2–0. Cevato Captained Fiorentina The 1955–56 team is regarded as one of the best Serie A has ever seen and Fulvio Bernardini's men should have won more titles being runners-up in 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1960. For Italian national team he got 28 international caps, scored 4 goals and participated at the 1954 FIFA World Cup. After he retired he managed Pescara, Empoli and Fiorentina youth teams. He died at 76 years old in Florence.
